ecoENERGY Retrofit Program

Energy Audit

Lumen8 Lighting Water & Air delivers Natural Resource Canada's residential energy efficiency assessment service to owners of single family homes including detached, semi-detached and low-rise multi-unit residential buildings that are no more than three storeys high.

Under the ecoENERGY Retrofit program, property owners can qualify for Federal and Provincial grants of up to $10,000.00 by improving the energy efficiency of their homes, and reducing their home's impact on the environment.

We offer impartial, unbiased energy assessments. We are focused on providing accurate and realistic recommendations tailored to your property.

Our NRCAN certified Energy Advisors have multi-disciplinary skills in the construction and home inspection industries which enables them to assess your home accurately and in a timely manner. You get a highly experienced assessor who can efficiently assess your home and provide you with recommendations that are prioritized according to your personal plans and economies.

Take advantage of the ecoENERGY Retrofit Grant to make your home more energy efficient and help you save money.

To qualify, follow these five easy steps: Hire a Lumen8 NRCAN certified energy advisor to perform an energy evaluation of your home. Select the improvements from your home energy action checklist. Implement the recommended energy upgrades within 18 months. Call your energy advisor to perform your post-retrofit evaluation, to confirm your new energy rating and to submit your application on your behalf. Wait for no more than 60 days to receive your cheque based on the eligible upgrades performed!

Grants are being given for:

  • Improved air sealing around the home
  • Improved Insulation around the home
  • Improved Windows
  • High Efficiency Furnaces, even larger grants when they have DC motors
  • High Efficiency and Solar Hot Water Heaters
  • Heat Recovery Ventilators
  • High Efficiency Air Conditioners
  • Drain Water Heat Recovery Units
  • High Efficiency Exterior Doors
  • Wood Burning Appliances
There is an additional $7000.00 grant available for ground source water heating projects.

The Visit:

There are two visits. The first one is an assessment as to the efficiency of your home prior to any upgrades or changes. The second visit is up to 18 months later to audit your changes. A typical first visit will take between one hour and half to two hours depending on the size of your house and the number of questions you ask. The end of the visit is a sit down time with you for 15 minutes to go through the incentive program and answer questions. We encourage homeowners to walk around with the Energy Advisor and ask questions as the assessment progresses. A very important part of the visit is the blower door test which is where you get to find out where all of your drafts are and how you can fix them. The homeowner must always be present as there are documents to sign. The second visit is shorter. The Energy Advisor will audit the changes you have made, ensure compliance with the program and perform a second blower door test. Note that there is an incentive to reduce your air leakages and the second blower door test will measure how well you have done in sealing up your home as well as determine the incentive for air sealing.

Preparation:

Clean the ashes from your wood burning fireplace – we don't want to blow them around when the blower door test is going on. Provide access to the attic access hatch - we need to get our ladder in this area to gain access to the attic where we will take pictures, look at the construction, measure your insulation level and check for any issues.

The Report:

You will receive a comprehensive report and Energuide Label for your house within 2 weeks. At this time you should review the report and call us if you have any questions. The recommendations in the report are just that, recommendations – you can choose to do all of them, none of them or some of them, it is up to you.

When you feel you have done all that you can do, call us for the follow up second visit and grant application.

The Cost:

The cost for the initial audit is $350.00. There are some organizations that advertise a lower price of $300.00 or $325.00 but beware, they then tack on mileage charges and surcharges for the size of your home or supposed supplemental services. We charge one flat rate, no surprises. The Provincial Government will rebate $150.00 of this cost within 60 days regardless of weather you choose to implement any of the recommendations or not. So the net cost for the initial audit is $200.00
